Library for legality

Financial institution:
“Orizzonti solidali” - Fondazione Megamark
Target group:
school and young people
Project's partner:
Camera a Sud Aps, Poiesis Aps, IBBY Italy, UICI - Italian Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired ONLUS, Libera Puglia, AUSER Lecce, Alighieri-Diaz Comprehensive Institute, Cosimo De Giorgi Scientific High School

The project has the objective of activating paths and processes to promote the culture of legality and spreading a sense of responsibility and justice among the younger generations, through the reading and diffusion of tools with a triple value: didactic, recreational and inclusive.
The imagined path of active legality contributes to the construction of a special and democratic library, which combines readings and civic sense, books and legality through the establishment of a “stable” space that is constituted as the seat and reference point of a legality incubator as well as “mobile” spaces intended as activities, meetings, workshops, events and creative workshops that give life to a vision of reading and of interactive and participatory legality. These are the project actions:

  1. Creation of BILL: The Library of legality will host about 300 books, some in alternative formats such as audiobooks, selected by IBBY Italy, with a focus on justice, legality, and democracy.
  2. Creative street art workshop with students and teenagers.
  3. Production of Audiobooks: Identification of two texts from the world literature that deal with the issue of legality and registration of an audiobook, with the collaboration of local actors and the elderly volunteer of Auser as narrative voices.
  4. Legality aperitif: debate-meetings and readings on the theme of legality, at the Multicultural Center Crocevia, through the involvement of the professional associations who will dialogue with the students, starting from the reflections that emerged from the library’s texts.
  5. “Circulating” bibliography for children and young people that will allow the exchange of readings and texts both at the partner schools and at the BILL headquarters to bring people closer and encourage active and conscious reading.
  6. Living library: through the narration of their own or other people’s stories related to the themes of different cultures, third age and accessibility and / or disability, a struggle against prejudice and social inclusion will be activated, which will develop a greater sense of empathy through actions of sociality focused on the voiced emotionality of the story.
  7. Art books related to the theme of legality and active citizenship. A call will be made for the production of original products by local and national artists who will become part of the BILL book collection and at the same time the most voted artistic product through a contest on the main social platforms will be printed and distributed at other BILL locations in Italy
