A social innovation project, which includes targeted actions to protect the health of migrant citizens, asylum seekers and holders of international protection in conditions of vulnerability, through specific assistance, consultancy and training programs.

With due regard to equal opportunities, citizenship rights, non-discrimination and universal healthcare, the general purpose of the project is to promote the healthcare as well as the social welfare of foreign citizens and to strengthen the different competences of the Regional Health System, in the provinces of Taranto, Brindisi and Lecce, areas of the Puglia Region subject to both emergency reception and stabilization of the migratory phenomenon.

The specific goal is to facilitate access to social and healthcare services, supporting both, users and the social health professionals in the reception and orientation phase, implementing innovative social practices, aimed at simplifying procedures for access to medical treatment and health protection.

The functional organization of the project takes place through the establishment of a multidisciplinary team and the development of the ASL staff training path and integration between the ASL and the private social sector, in order to respond to medical, paramedical, psychological, social, legal, educational and rehabilitation needs provided for by the project, ensuring both prevention and timely and correct diagnosis / prognosis, being able to operate on high, homogeneous, cross-cultural therapeutic diagnostic standards and managing to offer suitable therapeutic support and adequate legal and protection assistance.

Three actions of the project

1. Intercultural Linguistic Mediation Service at the ASL
The activation of the Intercultural Linguistic Mediation service at the ASL of Taranto, Brindisi and Lecce supports the processes of detection and / or treatment of the identified health need, with a team of highly specialized mediators supporting the health care professionals as facilitators capable of adequate responses by virtue of need / vulnerability.

2. Training dedicated to medical, para-medical and nursing staff
Training on medical anthropology, health sociology, ethno-psychiatric psychology, transcultural mediation etc. provides wide-ranging cognitive tools, to face, more precisely, the challenges related to vulnerability and the need for adequate information on access to health and social services, optimization of tools and strategies of care, prevention and individualized care.

3. The creation of a multilingual application
Orientation and information multilingual app for smartphones with sections on how the Italian National Health System works, awareness campaigns and health protections, vaccinations, etc..
